Salami (singular salame) – a type of cured sausage consisting of fermented and air-dried meat, typically beef or pork. Popular among southern and central European peasants because it stores at room temperature for up to 40 days once cut, supplementing a potentially meager or inconsistent supply of fresh meat. Countries and regions across Europe make their own traditional varieties of salami. 

Although it does not require cooking to prepare it for eating, but can cook enough to warm it when you wish to add it to a hot dish or sandwich. The cooking process will not take long, just enough time to slightly brown the meat. It will also bring out the juices of an otherwise often dry meat.
